Yongwoo Lee, who graduated from Oxford University with a PhD in Art History and Aesthetics, is an art academic and curator. He has served as the artistic director and president of the Gwangju Biennale, as well as the president of the IBA (International Biennial Association). He is the founder and artistic director of theShanghai Projectwith Hans Ulrich Obrist.

He curated numerous exhibitions includingDansaekhwa(Palazzo Contarini Polignac),Tiger’s Tail(Palazzo Vendramin and Palazzo Casino) as parallel events of Venice Biennale in 2015 and 1995,Nam June Paik's Retrospectiveat the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Korea,the 30th anniversary of the Gwangju Civil Uprising(Gwangju City Museum),John Cage(Gwangju Museum of Art),The Challenging Souls:Yves Klein, Lee Ufan, Ding Yi(PSA, Shanghai). He has published books such asArt and Life of Nam June Paik,Video Art,Information and Reality, etc. He served as a juror of Venice Biennale (2015) and ARCASIA Awards for Architecture Awards (2020).
